The Firearms Protection Act of 1985 'Supposed to " protect people while transporting legal guns (from State of Origin) to destination (Legal in State of destination) for legitimate purposes as long as the gun (s) are locked and separated from ammo and other passengers .

May not work in Nazi occupied New Jersey or Peoples Republic of NYC ..
Check with Coalition of CT Sportsmen org (Bob Crook) or GOAL (Massachusetts) but the whole point of the law is for cowboys jus Pass'n through to a shootin match or transporting your houshold goods to your new Pondarosa .

Jeff is correct and to go one step further, if this involves a NFA firearm (full auto, short barreled etc.) you need to get ATF's permission via a 5320 form to do so. If it is a Non-NFA firearm then no form is needed provided as Jeff stated it is legal to be possessed by you in your state and the destination state.
