OK folks, I have a new Savage Bolt Action rifle in .223 Rem and I'm looking for input on barrel break-in procedure for best accuracy. I know this can start a lively discussion so let the games begin. I'm not a hunter, I'm a paper poker if that matters. Thanks in advance.

Beats me! I don't think I've ever had a brand new rifle to worry about such subtleties.
Just get out there and shoot it, I'd suggest.

Step 1 clean

Then I usually go 10 rounds, wet patch, dry patch, 3-4 times.

Shoot 10 rounds to foul the barrel, then a 3 rnd group for accuracy check, if it's about 1 MOA, I'll start to work up loads.

If not 1 MOA or less more of the 10 round, wet patch, dry patch for another 3-4 times, foul the barrel, then 3 rnd group.

My .308 takes about 15 rounds to "come back in" after a complete cleaning.
