WOLCOTT --- The Wolcott Land Owners Sport Shooting Club is holding its sixth annual fundraiser to help fight breast cancer.

The event is on July 27 starting at 9 a.m. at the club, 920 Woodtick Road.

The fundraiser will feature skeet and trap shooting, where participants get 100 shots at clay targets launched into the air by a machine. Also, there will be .22-caliber rifle shooting and .22- and .38- caliber pistol shooting.

In addition to shooting, there will be a silent auction with items donated by local businesses. Mossberg Firearms has donated a .308-caliber rifle.

The minimum entry fee for trap/skeet shooting is $100 per person, plus $22 to cover the cost of targets. Teams of five can enter for $610.

Businesses and organizations are encouraged to form teams. Wolcott Police Department will have a team this year for the second time.

Eight other teams are registered, including one from Mossberg Firearms, two from Times Microwave in Wallingford, four from R.K. Machine in New Britain and one from Noble High Performance in Wolcott.

Individual shooters are also welcome. The highest scorer in the trap shooting competition will get his or her name on a plaque that is on display in the club.

The minimum entry fee for rifle and pistol shooting is $25 per person, plus $10 for ammunition and targets.

Pistol shooters will get 10 shots with a .22-caliber gun and 12 shots with a .38-caliber gun. Twenty shots will be provided for those using a .22-caliber rifle.

Pistols and rifles will be provided, if needed. First-time shooters are welcome. Rangers will supervise the event.

Pre-registration is requested but not required. Checks should be made out to WLOPA and mailed to P.O. Box 6240, Wolcott, 06716. Include a contact name and phone number.

The Wolcott Land Owners Club's fundraiser, now in its sixth year, has raised more than $45,000 for breast cancer research and the club's emergency relief fund.

Each year, half of the money raised goes toward sponsoring a team of women who participate in the Avon Walk for Breast Cancer led by Margaret Vagnini of Middlebury.

The other half goes into the club's emergency relief fund to help someone in need.

Last year, the emergency relief fund helped Annie Cepelak, a Wolcott resident who was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2011 and has undergone bilateral mastectomies, chemotherapy and radiation.
