There is no good correlation between gun ownership and crime statistics, either positive or negative. I hate it when the argument is used. The strong correlation is with socioeconomic factors. so combined with the recent release of crime statistics, gun sales have increased quite a bit, and violent ...

Wonderful, my pickup truck is now a race car by your definition. These arbitrary definitions are what get us in trouble in the end.

Of course, my definition of "assault rifle" is any rifle you point at another human being.

I have a low number 1903, and have had no problems with it. I shoot Prvi 30-06 (both 150 and 180gr) almost exclusively in it. A good summary of the problem is here: http://m1903.com/03rcvrfail/ For me, I don't feel that the low number 1903's are any more risky than any other 100-year-old firearm, if...

Yeah, I'm not planning on being in a vehicle for very long. Would probably hop on my motorcycle, and try to make it up to Massachusetts. From various points there, I can easily pick up the Long Trail, connect to the Appalachian Trail, and be in the deep woods of Maine in 2-3 months at a foraging pac...

As a backpacker, it's easy. I just have my backpacking gear all assembled and ready to go. I tend to leave components spread out on a shelf but I can be out the door in about a minute. Water: collapsable water pouch, hard-sided canteen, MSR water filter (you should get one - they're usually less tha...

I'm free on Sunday, so assuming there's more than just the two of us interested, I'm in.

Anyone up for a ride this weekend (assuming decent weather?)

There is something a little odd at times, though. I've gotten an email saying I have a new private message, which takes me to this site (I double-checked the address - it is ctshooting.com), but then it tries to download something to my computer. If I reclick the link, it just then spits me out to G...

I figured I'd resurrect this thread since now both John and I also have motorcycles. What's a good weekend date for everyone?

If you have too many, I'd love to have one as well. We have a new milling machine at work I've been helping set up - I'll just do some additional "test machining" on the mill.

Of all the coincidences... I have a BSA Sweet22 as well. The price can't be beat. I use it on my bolt action CZ.

That reminds me, I haven't shot the CZ in a while. Or any rifle, for that matter.

I am not voting for Romney. If I have to, I will vote for Obama to keep Romney out of office. That is all I'm going to say here, but if you want to discuss this privately, I'll be happy to.

Pistol Permits

 by Hermes ¦  Sat Jul 07, 2012 8:33 am ¦  Forum: General Firearm Discussion ¦  Topic: Pistol Permits ¦  Replies: 1 ¦  Views: 721

A few posts had me thinking about pistol permits. Do you think they are a good thing? Discuss. To start things off, I feel that it is good that someone is required to have some minimal amount of training before being allowed to carry a firearm, similar to showing some basic knowledge of how to drive...

Cow Share

 by Hermes ¦  Tue Jul 03, 2012 9:14 am ¦  Forum: Off-Topic ¦  Topic: Cow Share ¦  Replies: 0 ¦  Views: 773

I recently found out about people doing this, and am interested in getting a cow share together, if people are interested. Basically, a bunch of us pool our money and buy a side (or a whole cow, if there's enough) direct from a farmer. It's high quality beef, and reasonably priced. A side of beef is...

I decided to join the club. This is why I haven't bought a gun (you really tempted me with the Eddystone, Gregg) in the past few months: http://i588.photobucket.com/albums/ss330/Hermes_Huang/Motorcycle/P1040085.jpg I did the MSF course at Gateway Community College.
